W. of Athens at S.R. 682 and S.R. 56, on Hocking River Originally water-powered, built in 1816, burned 1912, rebuilt 1915, now a feed mill, NRHP

35-12-01 The Mill Inn On U.S. 40 W. of Springfield, 1.2 M., Rocky Run Mill is now used as a restaurant, not attractive, no longer resembles a mill.

 

CLINTON COUNTY
35-14-01 Joe Beam & Sons Mill At the end of S.R. 134 in Port William on Main Street, Anderson's Fork Large dam, operated for family use, active feed mill, attractive location.

 

COLUMBIANA COUNTY
35-15-01 Gaston's Mill In Beaver Creek State Park, 8 M. N. of Liverpool, 1 M. S. of Clarkson, Ohio & Erie Canal. Built in 1837, 2.5-story frame, operating gristmilll, wooden waterwheel, NRHP
35-15-02 Hambleton Mill In Beaver Creek State Park, 8 M. N. of Liverpool, 1 M. S. of Clarkson Restored exterior, equipment has been removed.
35-15-03 Speirs Windmill At S. R. 644 and Fink Road in Summitville, behind Singing Tower Building Small windmill built for personal storage, cute but not authentic.

35-18-02 Jaite Mill Historic District S.E. of Brecksville at Riverview and Vaughn Roads, Brecksville Ugly paper mill, abandoned, deteriorating, brick, many additions, NRHP.

 

DARKE COUNTY
35-19-01 Bear's Mill From Greenville, 5 M. E. on U.S. 36, .25 M. S. on Arcanum-Bears Mill Road 3.5-story frame, beautiful full-functioning gristmill, turbine-powered, open to public, NRHP

 

DELAWARE COUNTY
35-21-01 Hinkle Woolen Mill 2.5 M. S. of Delaware on Chapman Road, off S.R. 23 A.K.A. Wigton Mill, stone, 2 stories, no roof, seriously deteriorated, not open to public.
35-21-02 Beiber Mill 2 M. S. of Delaware on Chapman Road, off S.R. 23 3.5 story, outstanding beautiful stone bldg. with arched windows, roof and interior is gone, just shell remains, impressive ruin.

 

ERIE COUNTY
35-22-01 Addington Mill At Cedar Point Amusement Park, near Sandusky Moved here from North Carolina, preserved.
35-22-02 Waterwheel at the Blue Hole 502 North Washington Street, in Castallia Only waterwheel used to aerate a trout stream, admission.

 

FAIRFIELD COUNTY
35-23-01 Rock Mill 3 M. W. of U.S. 33 on Lithopolis Road, on Hocking River headwaters, in Bloom Township 4-story frame, deteriorated, attractive setting above river gorge, next to covered bridge, existance is tenuous.

 

GALLIA COUNTY
35-27-01 Bob Evans Family Mill From Rio Grande, 5 M. E. on S.R. 35, N. on Rodney/Bidwell Road 3-story frame, built 1984, commercial gristmill, 6 sets french buhrs.
35-27-02 Cora Mill

Davis Mill

From Rio Grande, 3 M. S. on Cora Mill Road, near S.R. 325 3.5-story frame covered with rusted tin roof, on stone foundation, Raccoon Creek, now use as an antique store.
35-27-03 James Beam Windmill S. of Bob Evans Restaurant on S.R. 35 3 stories, 4 arms, stone base, white shingles and tin cap, built 1961.

 

GEAUGA COUNTY
35-28-01 Fowler's Mill Vicinity of Fowler's Mill, from S.R. 322, on Fowler's Mill Road 3.5 stories, frame on stone foundation, built 1833, restored and opened in 1989 selling stone-ground corn, wheat & rye, open to public

 

GREENE COUNTY
35-29-01 Clifton Mill In Clifton on Little Miami River, near Clifton Gorge Operating roller mill, millrace, tours, small fee, dam, waterwheel display, built 1869, restaurant (plan breakfast or lunch) exciting location.
35-29-02 Grinnell Mill S.E. of Yellow Springs on Grinnell Road, on Little Miami River Built 1821, water flows under mill, residence, NRHP.

 

HAMILTON COUNTY
35-31-01 Flick's Homeline Inn Sawmill Site In Miamitown, on Great Miami River Restaurant building was the office of old sawmill complex.
35-31-02 Miamitown Mill Site In Miamitown, on Great Miami River Destroyed in 1913 Flood, 4 stories, flour and sawmill, stone from dam used to build beautiful church on the main street.

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY
35-36-01 McCoppin's Mill 1 M. W. of Rainsboro on S.R. 50, S. on S.R. 753, 1 M., R. on McCoppin Mill Road, 1 M. Built 1862, 4.5-story frame, large beautiful cut stone dam, site established 1829, site is below the huge dam for Rocky Fork Lake.
35-36-02 Barretts Mills From S.R. 50 in Rainsboro, S. on Barrett Mill Road 2 M. on left at bridge Structure burned years ago, stone foundation remains, large dam, huge stone abutments remain which are remnants of a Long Truss Covered Bridge, interesting site, NRHP.

 

HOLMES COUNTY
35-38-01 Rastetter Woolen Mill 5 M. E. of Millersburg on S.R. 39, 2 M. W. of Berlin 1869 wool carding mill functioning producing wool batting, store sells handmade rugs, coats, sweaters and much more.
35-38-02` Altman Woolen Mill From Clark, S.R. 83 N., .1 M. R. on Clark-Becks Road (first R.), 2 M. on L., Mechanic Township Built 1834, 2.5-story frame, seriously deteriorated, millrace, interesting mill landscape.

 

HURON COUNTY
35-39-01 Phoenix Mills From Steuben, E. on S.R. 162, 1.25 M. R. on S.R. 61, .5 M. R. on Mill Road (no road sign), T. R. 133, 1st road on R., mill is 300 yards behind the first house on the R., not visible, permission required. One of the architecturally significant mills in Ohio, 2.5 stories, stone, shell only, beautiful, impressive, a MUST SEE! NRHP.

 

KNOX COUNTY
35-42-01 Kenyon Mill From Gambier, S.R. 229 E., C.R. 54, at 9050 Big Run Road, near Kenyon College Used as tool shed, poor condition, interesting site.

 

LICKING COUNTY
35-45-01 Ye Olde Mill On S.R. 13, S. edge of Utica Burned in April, 1986, replaced with 2.5-story frame with waterwheel display, an ice cream parlor and mill museum.
35-45-02 Martin Shaub Mill Site 8259 Duncan Plains Road, Alxandria Miller's house is only remnant, NRHP
35-45-03 West Side Planing Mill 197 Mahollm Street, Newark Difficult to find, NRHP

35-48-01 Isaac R. Ludwig Historical Mill Mill Road in Provicence Park, on Miami & Erie Canal, Grand Rapids 2.5-story frame, unique functioning flour and gristmill, exhibits antique milling equipment, excellent restoration, NRHP.

 

MAHONING COUNTY
35-50-01 Lanterman's Mill S. W. edge of Youngstown, on U.S. 62 in Mill Creek Park Operating gristmill, admission, inside double waterwheels, stone, impressive, NRHP.

 

MEDINA COUNTY
35-52-01 Kirby Mill 2 M. W. of Richfield on S.R. 303, at Julia Crowell Girl Scout Camp Millhouse, dam, waterwheel, NOT open to public.

 

MIAMI COUNTY
35-55-01 Hoover Mill From WEst Milton, S. on S.R. 48, 2 M. on L. across from Montgomery County Line Road, sits back a drive .1 M., Union Township Small 2-story frame, large 18' waterwheel, flume, not operating
35-55-02 Staley Mill From the intersection of S.R. 571 & S.R. 201, N. on S.R. 201, 1.5 M. R. on Staley Road, .5 M. on R. 2.5-story frame, maintained, exhibits driveshafts for two waterwheels, preserved and locked, sawmill located behind miller's house.
35-55-03 Tipp Roller Mills In Tipp City at 225 E. Main Street Built 1839, 3-story frame, at lock on canal.
35-55-04 Wagon Wheel Mill S. edge of West Milton on S.R. 48 Ugly deteriorated, now Old Mill Antiques.

 

MONROE COUNTY
35-56-01 Cleveland Mill Ruins From Calais, off S.R. 309, up Cleaveland Road Ruins.
35-56-02 Ring Mill & House E. of S.R. 26 on C.R. 68 - R.R. 575, in Benton Township Mill site only, built 1846 by Walter and Margaaret Ring, stone house, tin roof, equipment gone, preserved house, NRHP.

 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY
35-57-01 Carillon Park Replica Mill From I-75 and I-675 S. of Sayton, follow I-75 N. Exit 47 (Moraine-Kettering), N. on South Dixie 5-6 M., Stay on South Dixie, cross Dorothy Lane, 1.5 M. Carillon Park is on the left at 2001 South Patterson Blvd. Replica Mill exhibits waterwheel, wooden gears & grinding stones.
35-57-02 Peerless Mill Inn From I-75, W. on S.R. 725 to Miamisburg, drive through town, turn L. (S.) on First Street, drive to the end of town, turn L. 1 block, turn L. on Second Street, at 319 South Second Street (E. side of the Miami River) Existing restaurant was a sawmill, 2-story frame, waterwheel display.
35-57-03 Shuey's Mill Main Street, Germantown 3-story brick, maintained 6/6 double-hung windows, some replaced with modern (out of place) windows, impressive bldg.  NRHP.
